Digital Marketing Questions that EVERY Business Owner Should Know the Answers to

As we move towards a digital world, you may be hearing that this will be the new normal. Working from home will be more common where possible and the technology will be more important than ever. With that being said, let’s take a look at some FAQs many business owners may have regarding the digital landscape.

What does a digital marketer’s job consist of?

Digital marketers are responsible for developing, implementing and managing marketing campaigns online to promote a company’s products and/or services. The primary focus in this role is to increase brand awareness and generate leads, which can be done using a variety of tactics. A digital marketer also looks over a wide range of tools to help boost a business such as branding, social media platforms, SEO, and website performance to name a few.

Would my business see a boost from digital marketing?

As the world changes, consumers are shifting more towards the digital environment to seek information about products and services. Businesses are able to target their ideal audiences 24/7 via digital advertisements as well as measure the performance of these campaigns.

How often do I need to update my website?

Short answer: Fairly often.

Long answer: Google’s search engine (using crawlers) scans websites and matches their content to its algorithm. Websites which match best to the algorithm will be placed higher on the search engine results page (SERP). So how do website updates play a role in all this? One of the key points in the algorithm is content freshness. Whether it is updating the website with informative blogs or updating product and/or service pages, Google takes into account all of these changes to rank your website higher. But of course, there are many variables taken into account within the algorithm and fully optimizing your website is needed to rank higher - this is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

What content should my business create?

Some popular types of content include blog posts, articles, infographics, videos, newsletters and images. There is a wide variety of content you can create for your customers but it mainly depends on your target audience. For example, a local ice cream shop may not want to have its website and social media feeds filled with infographics. On the other hand, a realtor may include infographics which outline market trends to easily visualize data facing his/her audience. At the end of the day, it depends on your business’s audience as well as the product/services you offer.

How long does it take for a marketing campaign to show results?

Paid digital marketing (such as promoted posts on Instagram) can create results almost immediately - starting with awareness and then resulting in leads. However, areas such as organic social media marketing and search engine optimization require more time and patience. In most cases, these techniques may take months for results to start appearing.
